DEAD-box helicase domain of DEAD box protein 27 DDX27 (also called RHLP, deficiency of ribosomal subunits protein 1 homolog, and probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX27) is involved in the processing of 5.8S and 28S ribosomal RNAs. More specifically, the encoded protein localizes to the nucleolus, where it interacts with the PeBoW complex to ensure proper 3' end formation of 47S rRNA. DDX27 is a member of the DEAD-box helicases, a diverse family of proteins involved in ATP-dependent RNA unwinding, needed in a variety of cellular processes including splicing, ribosome biogenesis and RNA degradation. The name derives from the sequence of the Walker B motif (motif II). This domain contains the ATP-binding region.
