Analysis of transcription factor Aire deficient medullary thymic epithelial cells with low or high CD80 expression. Aberrent expression of tissue-restricted antigens, called promiscuous gene expression (PGE), is a property of the thymic stroma. Results provide insight into the role of Aire in PGE.
