Pancreatitis Overview

The purpose of this overview is to increase the awareness of clinicians regarding pancreatitis and its genetic causes and management. The following are the goals of this overview.

Goal 1: Define pancreatitis.

Goal 2: Review the risk factors and etiologies of recurrent acute pancreatitis / chronic pancreatitis.

Goal 3: Provide an evaluation strategy to identify the genetic cause of pancreatitis in a proband (when possible).

Goal 4: Review management of pancreatitis.

Goal 5: Inform genetic risk assessment and surveillance of at-risk relatives for detection of early treatable manifestations of hereditary pancreatitis.
