COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The
reference sequence was derived from BC001738.1, AF032456.1,
            BE292782.1 and BG702453.1.

Summary: The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an
important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived
proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three
classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s,
            ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein
ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2
ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. The encoded protein shares
100% sequence identity with the mouse counterpart. This gene is
ubiquitously expressed, with high expression seen in adult muscle.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct
isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq].

Transcript Variant: This variant (2) has an additional exon in the
5' region, as compared to variant 1. It uses a downstream start
codon and encodes isoform 2 which has a shorter N-terminus, as
            compared to isoform 1.

Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the
publications that are available for this gene. Please see the
Entrez Gene record to access additional publications.
