inhibition of p53 ubiquitination and degradation by targeting
UbcH5B/C is not sufficient to up-regulate p53 transcriptional

COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The
reference sequence was derived from U39317.1, AF317220.1 and
            BC048426.1.

Summary: The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an
important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived
proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three
classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s,
            ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein
ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2
ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. This enzyme functions in the
ubiquitination of the tumor-suppressor protein p53, which is
induced by an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. Two alternatively
spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene and they
encode distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq].

Transcript Variant: This variant (2) has an additional exon in the
5' region, and uses a downstream in-frame start codon, as compared
to variant 1. Isoform 2 thus has a shorter N-terminus, as compared
            to isoform 1.

Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the
publications that are available for this gene. Please see the
