COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The
reference sequence was derived from X67951.1, AI912389.1 and
BU564066.1.
Summary: This gene encodes a member of the peroxiredoxin family of
antioxidant enzymes, which reduce hydrogen peroxide and alkyl
hydroperoxides. The encoded protein may play an antioxidant
protective role in cells, and may contribute to the antiviral
activity of CD8(+) T-cells. This protein may have a proliferative
effect and play a role in cancer development or progression. Three
transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified
for this gene. [provided by RefSeq].
Transcript Variant: This variant (3) uses an alternate splice site
in the 5' UTR compared to variant 1. Variants 1, 2, and 3 encode
the same protein.
Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the
publications that are available for this gene. Please see the
Entrez Gene record to access additional publications.
