1.

Aflatoxin B1

A potent hepatotoxic and hepatocarcinogenic mycotoxin produced by the Aspergillus flavus group of fungi. It is also mutagenic, teratogenic, and causes immunosuppression in animals. It is found as a contaminant in peanuts, cottonseed meal, corn, and other grains. The mycotoxin requires epoxidation to aflatoxin B1 2,3-oxide for activation. Microsomal monooxygenases biotransform the toxin to the less toxic metabolites aflatoxin M1 and Q1.

Year introduced: 1992

2.

Poisons

Substances which, when ingested, inhaled, or absorbed, or when applied to, injected into, or developed within the body in relatively small amounts may, by their chemical action, cause damage to structure or disturbance of function. (From Dorland, 27th ed)

3.

Toxins, Biological

Specific, characterizable, poisonous chemicals, often PROTEINS, with specific biological properties, including immunogenicity, produced by microbes, higher plants (PLANTS, TOXIC), or ANIMALS.

Year introduced: 2006(1966)

4.
5.

Mycotoxins

Toxic compounds produced by FUNGI.

Year introduced: 1967

6.

Heterocyclic Compounds, 2-Ring

A class of heterocyclic compounds that include a two-ring fused structure. Both aromatic and non-aromatic ring structures are included in this category.

Year introduced: 1998

7.

Heterocyclic Compounds, 1-Ring

Organic compounds that contain a ring structure made up of carbon and one or more additional elements such as nitrogen and oxygen.

Year introduced: 1998

8.

Heterocyclic Compounds

Cyclic compounds that include atoms other than carbon in their ring structure.

9.

Biological Factors

Endogenously synthesized compounds that influence biological processes not otherwise classified under ENZYMES; HORMONES or HORMONE ANTAGONISTS.

Year introduced: 1989

10.

Benzopyrans

Compounds with a core of fused benzo-pyran rings.

Year introduced: 1966

11.

Aflatoxins

Furano-furano-benzopyrans that are produced by ASPERGILLUS from STERIGMATOCYSTIN. They are structurally related to COUMARINS and easily oxidized to an epoxide form to become ALKYLATING AGENTS. Members of the group include AFLATOXIN B1; aflatoxin B2, aflatoxin G1, aflatoxin G2; AFLATOXIN M1; and aflatoxin M2.

Year introduced: 1975

12.

Heterocyclic Compounds, Fused-Ring

Multiple ring heterocyclic compounds containing two or more rings that share two atoms and one bond in common.

Year introduced: 2017

13.

Specialty Uses of Chemicals

Uses of chemicals in a research, industrial, or household setting. This does not include PHARMACOLOGIC ACTIONS.

Year introduced: 2004(1999)

14.

Chemical Actions and Uses

A group of pharmacologic activities, effects on living systems and the environment, and modes of employment of drugs and chemicals. They are broken into actions, which describe their effects, and uses, which describe how they are employed.

Year introduced: 1999

15.

Noxae

Agents capable of exerting a harmful effect on the body.

Year introduced: 1998

16.

Toxic Actions

A broad category of chemical actions with harmful or deadly effect on living organisms.

Year introduced: 2004(1998)
