Summary
Enables small conductance calcium-activated potassium channel activity. Involved in membrane repolarization during atrial cardiac muscle cell action potential and potassium ion transmembrane transport. Acts upstream of or within ion transport. Located in several cellular components, including T-tubule; Z disc; and smooth endoplasmic reticulum. Is expressed in brain; heart; and heart ventricle. Used to study Parkinson's disease. Orthologous to human KCNN2 (potassium calcium-activated channel subfamily N member 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]
Expression
Biased expression in adrenal adult (RPKM 77.6), cerebellum adult (RPKM 7.7) and 3 other tissues See more

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

    Status: VALIDATED

    Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) differs in the 5' UTR, lacks a portion of the 5' coding region and initiates translation at a downstream start codon, compared to variant 1. It encodes isoform SK2-S, which is shorter at the N-terminus, compared to isoform SK2-L.
