Multiple Salivary Biomarkers for Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer

(Submitter supplied) Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death. Lack of early detection technology for pancreatic cancer invariably leads to a typical clinical presentation of incurable disease at initial diagnosis. Oral fluid (saliva) meets the demand for non-invasive, accessible, and highly efficient diagnostic medium. The level of salivary analytes, such as mRNA and microflora, vary upon disease onset; thus possess valuable signatures for early detection and screening. more...

Discovery of salivary transcriptomic biomarkers for ovarian cancer

(Submitter supplied) Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death in gynecological diseases, and has been considered as one of the most fatal cancers due to lack of reliable detection strategy in the early stage. Therefore the capability to detect the morbidity initiation with an sensitive and effective approach is one of the most desirable goals for curing ovarian cancer. In this study, we used microarray technology for salivary mRNA biomarkers discovery, and evaluated the performance and translational utilities of discovered markers from a clinical study using an independent sample cohort . more...

Salivary microRNAs May Be A Valuable Biomarker To Detect Resectable Pancreatic Cancer

(Submitter supplied) Early surgery is vital in the treatment of highly fatal pancreatic cancer (PC). But there is no valuable and non-invasive biomarker to screen PC currently. Studies showed many salivary molecules can detect several systemic diseases. We aimed to investigate whether salivary microRNAs (miRNAs) can act as a biomarker to detect resectable PC.

Salivary Transcriptomic and Proteomic Biomarkers for Breast Cancer Detection

(Submitter supplied) A sensitive assay to identify biomarkers that can accurately diagnose the onset of breast cancer using non-invasively collected clinical specimens is ideal for early detection. In this study, we have conducted a prospective sample collection and retrospective blinded validation (PRoBE design) to evaluate the performance and translational utilities of salivary transcriptomic and proteomic biomarkers for the non-invasive detection of breast cancer. more...

Discovered salivary transcriptomic biomarkers for the detection of gastric cancer

(Submitter supplied) We have performed gene expression microarray analysis to profile transcriptomic signatures between cancer and noncancerous patients Gastric cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer deaths. Due to the difficulty of diagnosing patients in the early stages of gastric cancer, it is critical to develop a method that can diagnose the disease at the early stage to allow for better treatment options. more...

Pancreatic cancer biomarkers in mouse saliva

(Submitter supplied) This is a pilot study. We are trying to detect potential salivary biomarkers in mice with a pancreatic tumor. Global gene expression profiling has shown great promise in high-throughput biomarker discovery for early disease detection in body fluids such as saliva, which is accessible, cost-effective, and non-invasive. However, this goal has not been fully realized because saliva, like many clinical samples, contains partially fragmented and degraded RNAs that are difficult to amplify and detect with prevailing technologies. more...

Global mRNA/LncRNA expression analysis of pancreatic tumors causing type3C Diabetes Mellitus

(Submitter supplied) Pancreatic tumors with small size can cause type3C Diabetes Mellitus (PCA-DM) but the mechanism is unknown. In this study we aimed at revealing the mRNA and long noncoding RNA (LncRNA) expression patterns of pancreatic tumors that triggered PCA-DM. Four pancreatic tumors from patients with PCA-DM (A1-A4), four pancreatic tumors from patients without PCA-DM (B1-B4), and four pancreatic tissues from patients with pancreatitis were individually profiled with Agilent microarrays(Arraystar Human LncRNA Array v3.0).

Blood extracellular vesicle long RNA sequencing of human blood from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), chronic pancreatitis (CP) and healthy individuals

(Submitter supplied) Blood samples were collected from all participants in 10-mL EDTA-coated Vacutainer tubes. Plasma was separated by centrifugation at 3,000 rpm for 10 min at room temperature (25°C) within 2 h after blood collection and then centrifuged at 13,000 rpm for 10 min at 4°C to remove debris. Isolated plasma samples were stored at -80°C until use. EV RNA were isolated by affinity-based binding to spin columns using an exoRNeasy Serum/Plasma kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany). more...

MiR-27a-3p in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as a potential marker for pancreatic cancer screening

(Submitter supplied) Background & Aims: MicroRNAs have been shown to offer great potential in the diagnosis of cancer. We aimed to identify microRNAs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) for diagnosing pancreatic cancer (PC). Methods: PBMCs microRNA expression was investigated in three independent cohorts including 352 participants (healthy, benign pancreatic/peripancreatic diseases (BPD), and PC). First, we used sequencing technology to identify differentially expressed microRNAs in 60 PBMCs samples for diagnosing PC. more...

Genome-wide DNA methylation study in bladder cancer

(Submitter supplied) Genome-wide DNA methylation profiles were determined on a set of fresh 44 bladder cancer tissues using normal blood as control. DNA amplicons were prepared using Differential Methylation Hybridization (DMH) method, subsequently hybridized on to the Agilent Human CpG island Microarray. The goal was to unravel the DNA methylation patterns in different subgropus of bladder cancer along with finding markers for progresssion and early diagnosis.

Induction of systemic disease-specific salivary biomarker profiles in mouse cancer models

(Submitter supplied) Saliva (oral fluids) is an emerging biofluid poised for clinical diseases detection. Although the rationale for oral diseases applications (e.g. oral cancer) is clear, the rationale and relationship between systemic diseases and saliva biomarkers are unknown. In this study, we used mouse models of melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer and compared the transcriptome biomarker profiles of tumor-bearing mice to those of control mice. more...
