Transcriptome dynamics of mutualistic poxvirus infection of tropical fruit fly hosts

(Submitter supplied) Parasitoid wasps are one of the most species-rich groups of animals on Earth, due to their ability to successfully develop as parasites of nearly all types of insects. Unlike most known parasitoid wasps that specialize within one or a few host species, Diachasmimorpha longicaudata is a generalist that can survive within multiple genera of tephritid fruit fly hosts, including many globally important pest species. more...

Gene expression responses of Ceratitis capitata (medfly) males to experimental evolution under divergent larval nutrition

(Submitter supplied) The aim was to profile the gene expression responses of males to divergent selection on larval diets, using two different dietary regimes (sucrose-based ASG 'A' diet, versus starch-based Starch 'S' diet). 3 x replicated populations of medfly originating from the same base strain were set up on each of these two regimes (adult nutrition was standardised) and maintained. At generation 62, the flies were subjected to two generations of rearing on a glucose common garden diet (to standardise rearing to minimise proximate nutritional effects and minimise maternal carry over). more...

New insights into the reproductive transcriptome profile of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: Use of RNAseq to identify crucial genes expressed in the reproductive tract of C. capitata The medfly, Ceratitis capitata continues to pose a major threat to the agricultural sector in almost every continent. Promiscuous female medflies can oviposit up to 1000 eggs throughout their lifetime causing remarkable losses in crop viability. Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for finding new improved solutions to counteract its invasive spreading capacity. more...
